The Difference Between Kings and Apostles

Preacher: Series: 1 Corinthians: Pursue Love Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:8–13

Series sermon #14: In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul introduced the idea that the Corinthians were quarreling and dividing. In the immediately following chapters, he explains that they were divided following different apostles and that many of the Corinthians were exalting human leaders and human wisdom in the church. In 1 Cor 4:8-13, Paul gives another demonstration of what those who embrace human wisdom look like in the church. Those who embrace human wisdom are unwilling to endure affliction for the sake of Christ. Instead of being persecuted and rejected by the world, they are dangerously well-accepted by them. Paul demonstrates this by contrasting they way the world received the apostles and the way the Corinthian believers were received.
